We write fiction and love reading literature. We want to talk with others who are on the fiction writing path about literature. We read excellent fiction, discuss it from a craft perspective, and practice writing pastiches based on those readings. We love the chance to share our pastiches with each other. Consider this a kind of graduate level literary fiction reading/writing/workshop. I am open to location/dates/times/number of times/number of members with the following caveats: If we are going …
Facilitator-run writing groups use prompts and timed writings to help you begin your personal journey in memoir writing. Participants are encouraged to share what they write with the group. Members often gain insights and useful strategies by hearing what others write. Sessions are 50 minutes. Homework assignments help to motivate you to write on your own away from the group.
The Washington DC Write to Publish Group is unlike most writers’ groups which focus on critiquing each other’s work. Instead this group is dedicated to the "business side" of writing and educate authors (and would be authors) on what they can expect as they go from finished project to available for sale. Much of what is covered in these seminars can also be found online here: http://www.write2publish.blogspot.c

I just got back from an amazing year in Edinburgh, Scotland. While there, I was a member of a creative writing group where I met some fantastic writers. I want to start a similar group in the DC area because I know we have many great writers in the area as well. So here we are. The group brings together writers of all ages and from all walks of life. Whether you are a new writer or have published, all are welcome. If writing is your life, search for a group no longer. The format will be writer …
A mix of a writing circle and an art collective, Brush & Quill will use a combination of structured activities and improvisational writing and drawing to create individual and collaborative poems, prose, drawings, and paintings. In addition to writing and art, we sometimes break out a word or art game. Although, we sometimes do structured writing and art activities, the group, overall, is more of a social art and writing session. We typically meet in and around Silver Spring, Rockville, an …

We're currently a small group, but interested in expanding in both numbers and styles. We read and critique each other's work, whether it's fiction, poetry, autobiography or something...completely different. Your submission can be any size and as explicit as you'd like. As the head of the group, I can proudly say that I've completed a novel, including heavy revisions, and very nearly have an agent! So any help you'd like on that front can also be offered. I should have added this part sooner, so …

The SWG has been around for over twenty years, but is just now catching up with this "Meetup" technology.(LOL!) The group used to be huge, but over the years, it has dwindled down mostly because writers have moved away. Nonetheless, the group, though small at the moment, will soon start to grow and flourish as it once was. This is truly a place for novice, intermediate, and seasoned writers who would like to share their work in a friendly environment where harsh criticism is reprimanded. Even if …

This group is aimed at those who find the pen the vessel to express their flights of fancy, intrigue and mischief. We hope to provide a open environment to encourage collaboration, critique and community. Amateurs to professionals are welcome, to share their thoughts, their stories and their experiences.

All G/T kids need to meet, chat with, and play stimulating educational games with their peers. Underachieving gifted kids may have AD/HD, Learning Disabilities or Other Health Impairments, Depression, OCD or OD, or have trouble making friends. They may hate to read or write. They're also creative, have great imaginations, are funny, and super-sensitive. They have high potential, but haven't met it recently. They tend to be visual, right-brained learners. The purpose of this group is two-fold: First I'd like to welcome all lovers poetry and offer them a forum to showcase their work. Secondly, I'd like to use this plateform as a means of supporting the homeless. Although admission is FREE, all participants MUST bring to each slam, two canned goods to be donated to the homeless. This Poetry slam is diverse, and is open to everyone. All topics are allowed.
